MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View
“A talented husband-and-wife duo is behind DC's newest hipster hangout, which flaunts a contemporary affect—think bare tables and smooth floors. This setting is also the perfect match for its modern, edgy food, which meanders from the Middle East and Mediterranean all the way to Asia. There is unabashed creativity unleashed in this kitchen, as in the fried oyster mushrooms, with mushroom powder serving as a tempura batter. Next up, barbecue carrots that are given the North Carolina treatment—rubbed with vinegar, then grilled to smoky and meaty deliciousness—and served alongside a savory cornbread ice cream. Finally, a seemingly simple brie custard is in fact bold yet balanced, with flavors that come together brilliantly. It is presented in a vibrant blue-and-white bowl with a trickle of red cherry mostarda, honey comb, and buttery "ritz" crackers made in house.
Beverage pairings include the "mixed media," featuring the likes of cider, wine, and cocktails. And since you get to mix and match menu items, the bar follows suit and tailors wine options to the guests' selections.”
